March 24, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC – For the first time in three seasons, the Charlotte Checkers are going to the playoffs.

The Checkers become the first team in the East Division to clinch a playoff spot after Pee Dee's loss to Louisiana last night. Although Charlotte is guaranteed a position in the post season, the valued second seed in the American Conference is still up for grabs.

With 80 points and seven games left to play, the Checkers need to maintain their lead in the East to gain the home-ice advantage. The South Carolina Stingrays are two points behind the Checkers with 78 points followed by Columbia with 76 points. There is still room for both South Carolina and Columbia to challenge the Checkers for the second seed. The Checkers have played one more game than South Carolina and four more games than Columbia.

The Checkers travel to Columbia on Friday and South Carolina on Saturday. The Checkers are 3-2-1 against South Carolina and 5-4-0 against Columbia on the season.

Join the Charlotte Checkers for the final weekend of regular-season hockey at Cricket Arena on April 8-9. On Friday, April 8, 2005, the Checkers take on the Greenville Grrrowl at 7 PM. On Saturday, April 9, 2005, the Checkers host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7 PM.

In celebration of the playoff berth, every fan on April 9th will receive a subscription to the Sporting News courtesy of the Charlotte Checkers, the first 4,000 fans will receive a free cap courtesy of SunCom Wireless, and everyone is invited to a post-game concert featuring Charity Case for Ace & TJ's Grin Kids.

Playoff ticket packages for the post season are on sale now through the Checkers Front Office at 704-342-4423. Individual playoff game tickets will be available on April 4th.
