Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx staged a dramatic third period rally for a come from behind shootout win over the Columbia Inferno on Thursday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Tim Smith scored just 4:27 into the opening frame to give the Inferno a 1-0 lead. Then in the middle frame, Chanse Fitzpatrick scored with just 20 seconds remaining, appearing to give Columbia the momentum heading into the third period. The Lynx, however, were primed for a comeback.

Doug Wright kicked things in gear when he picked the puck free from an Inferno defender in the Columbia slot, walked in and beat goaltender Rob McVicar to make it a 2-1 game. Louis Goulet and Trevor Peterson drew the assists on the goal at 8:30 of the third period. A late power play chance for the Lynx would fail to produce a goal, but with 52 second remaining and Jason Saal on the bench for an extra attacker, Goulet fired a shot from the point that beat McVicar to tie the game at 2-2. Jamie Johnson and Ken Magowan provided the help to send the Lynx to overtime.

No scoring in the extra session despite a power play chance for the Inferno led to a shootout, where the Lynx would score twice on markers from Eric Johansson and Ken Magowan to wrap things up. Saal stopped all four shooters faced in the shootout, and turned aside 35 shots in regulation and overtime. McVicar finished 2-for-4 while making 34 saves in the loss.

Augusta will get right back to action tomorrow night at home, hosting the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:35 pm in the front half of a home and home series between the two clubs. Tickets are on sale now through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
