Aces lose 3-2 in OT to Vegas
March 24, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â For only the third time all year, Alaska failed to convert a lead going into the third period into two points, as Dan Tudin scored at 2:33 of overtime to give Las Vegas a 3-2 victory before 4,705 Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.
Kimbi Daniels tipped in a Cal Benazic drive from the point at 13:16 of the opening period, but that would be the only goal through the first 40 minutes of what, at times, seemed to be a listless affair. The Aces registered 12 shots on goal during the first period but just 11 over the final 45 minutes of regulation and overtime.
The fourth overall pick in the 1994 NHL Draft, Jason Bonsignore, tied the game for the Wranglers at 4:49 of the third period and Las Vegas took its first lead with 9:25 remaining when Tim Hambly found Jeff Attard all alone in front for an easy tap-in behind Alaska starter Peter Aubry, who finished with 21 saves. Trailing 2-1, the Aces got a power play, and with a delayed penalty in effect that would have resulted in a two-man advantage, B.J. Young ripped a shot from the high slot by Marc Magliarditti for the equalizer with 6:39 left in regulation.
Though Alaska failed to take advantage of the ensuing power play, the goal did salvage a point for the West Division leaders, who were beaten when Tudin's wrist shot from between the circles beat Aubry cleanly on the blocker side midway through overtime. The Aces now stand at 40-17-8, four points ahead of Long Beach, who moved past idle Bakersfield into second place with a 2-1 victory over Gwinnett.
Alaska practices Thursday at 10:00 a.m. before finishing up their regular season schedule at Sullivan Arena with two more matches against Las Vegas (28-28-8) Friday and Saturday night. Both games against the Wranglers start at 7:15 p.m. and will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. For tickets and 2005 Kelly Cup playoff information, please call 258-ACES.
