San Diego Gulls News Release


SAN DIEGO – It's been another strong year for the San Diego Gulls off the ice, as the player appearances and charity functions continue to climb. Here's a look back at some of the community programs the Blue and Orange have been involved with during the last few months.

Jan. 6: The Gulls Girls appeared at Dana Middle School to help the school's bake sale and promote ticket sales for their fundraiser with the Gulls.

Jan. 8: As part of the Gulls' relief efforts for the Asia Tsunami victims, there was a post-game autograph session in the arena club. Fans who made a minimum $10 donation participated in this event.

Jan. 8: Gulls players appeared at Cheswick's West after the game against the Fresno Falcon for a post-game party.

Jan. 12: Sean O'Connor, Sean Murphy and the Gulls Girls appeared at Woody's Sports Bar and Grille in Escondido. The players and Gulls Girls were on-hand for pictures, autographs and helped promote a big group night for an upcoming home game.

Jan. 18: Trevor Koenig and Brian Gornick appeared at King Middle School in Oceanside, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

Jan. 18: Mathieu Chouinard and Sean O'Connor appeared at San Diego Cooperative Charter School, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

Jan. 20: Trevor Koenig and Nick Ganga appeared at High Tech High International School in Point Loma, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

Jan. 24: Sean Murphy and Max Birbraer appeared at San Diego Charter School at Mesa College, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

Feb. 8: Mike Garrow, Sean Murphy, Max Birbraer, Brian Gornick and Eddy Ferhi appeared at Mardi Gras, which took place in the Gaslamp Quarter.

Feb. 10: Wes Rypien and Evgueni Nourislamov signed autographs at the Good Guys, directly across from the ipayOne Center at the Sports Arena.

Feb. 12: Gulls players appeared at Cheswick's West after the game against the Fresno Falcons for a post-game party.

Feb. 15: The Gulls held their second annual "Dunk-A-Gull" at Dick's Last Resort, located in downtown San Diego. This was a prelude to the 14th Annual Tip-A-Gull event and all the proceeds benefited UCP of San Diego County.

Feb. 28: Nick Ganga and Chris Lynch appeared at Shoal Creek Elementary School in the Poway area, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

March 6: The Gulls participated in their 14th Annual "Tip-A-Gull" event at Dick's Last Resort, located in downtown San Diego. More than $37,000 – a new record – was raised for UCP of San Diego County.

March 8: Grady Moore and Brian Gornick appeared at Lafayette Elementary School, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

March 9: Sean O'Connor and Andy Canzanello appeared at Clairemont High School, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

March 9: Wes Rypien, Sean Murphy and Eddy Ferhi appeared at Woody's Sports Bar & Grille in Escondido, promoting their group night at an upcoming home game.

March 10: Nick Ganga appeared at Carlton Hills Elementary School, promoting the school's big fundraiser with the Gulls.

March 15: The Gulls held their annual bowling night at Sunset Bowl, located in Clairemont. Some $1,300 was raised that night for youth hockey in San Diego.

March 16: Sean Murphy and Darren Clark appeared at Spring Valley Middle School.

March 19: Mathieu Chouinard spoke to the Los Angeles Kings' Booster Club after the Gulls game against the Las Vegas Wranglers.

DONATION UPDATE:

Amount raised for UCP of San Diego county: More than $37,000

Amount raised for Asia Tsunami victims: $6,000 (presented to San Diego Rescue Task Force on March 19)

Amount raised for youth hockey in San Diego: More than $8,300

Amount raised through other donations and fundraisers will be tallied at the end of the season.

Last season a record total of about $232,000 was raised for local charities and other community programs
