Gladiators Fall to IceDogs, 2-1

The Long Beach IceDogs posted the only goal of the second period to knock off the Gwinnett Gladiators 2-1 on Wednesday night at the Long Beach Arena.

Kevin Doell opened the scoring with his first goal of the season for the Gladiators 2:47 into the first period hanging out in the slot where he took a pass from Mike Vigilante and ripped a snapshot past Long Beach netminder Sebastien Centomo. Pat Dwyer picked up his first professional point on the play chipping in an assist on the goal.

Marty Clapton equalized the contest at 6:05 of the first period beating Gladiators netminder Adam Berkhoel off a deflection in front of the Gladiators netminder. Gary Zink and Christian Larivee added the assists on the goal for the Ice Dogs.

Long Beach took a 2-1 lead a little past the midway point of the second period. Cory Urquhart beat Berkhoel on a snapshot in the slot as the netminder slid across the crease as the puck squired out of the corner from Michael Lambert to a waiting Urquhart. Marco Rosa also picked up an assist on the goal at 12:25 of the second period.

The IceDogs buckled down defensively in the third period as both teams were held scoreless in the final period. Long Beach finished the game out shooting the Gladiators 32-27 while Adam Berkhoel finished the game with 30 saves in the loss.
