Final Garden State Cup To Be Decided Tomorrow

March 24, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Ultimate bragging rights in the State of New Jersey will be decided tomorrow night at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton when the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies and Trenton Titans conclude a terrific four-year rivalry as they meet for the final time ever in the regular season. Game time is 7:30PM and can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1450AM and the SurferNetwork at www.boardwalkbullies.com beginning with "Bullies Countdown" at 7:10PM.

Following a 3-2 shootout win over the Titans on February 11 at Historic Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City leads the famed Garden State Cup Series this season 5-3-1 and can capture their second Garden State Cup with a victory of any kind. Meanwhile, Trenton needs to defeat the Bullies in regulation in order to claim their third Garden State Cup.

The Garden State Cup Series began on October 14, 2001 when Trenton defeated Atlantic City 4-2 at Sovereign Bank Arena. Since that night, the teams have competed in arguably the ECHL's most exciting rivalry over the past four years as 20 of the total 45 games, including the playoffs, have been decided by a single goal. Trenton captured the inaugural Garden State Cup in 2001-02 and again in 2003-04 by winning six out of the ten meetings in both seasons. The Bullies won their only Garden State Cup in 2002-03 when they also knocked off the Titans six times in the regular season. Atlantic City leads the all-time regular season series 19-16-4.

The rivalry could possibly be extended if Atlantic City and Trenton were to meet up in the 2005 ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs in either the North Division Semifinals or Finals. The Bullies are a perfect 6-0 against the Titans in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, sweeping Trenton out of both the 2002 and 2003 playoffs.

In preparation for tomorrow's game, Atlantic City has placed defenseman Tom Reimann on the seven-day injured reserve.
