Hot Rods Make History, Win 10 in a Row

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (20-11) made some history, winning their record setting 10th in a row. The previous franchise record for winning streaks was nine, which last happened in July of 2017. It was an 8-1 win over the Peoria Chiefs (13-16) that featured a five run third to push the Hot Rods over the Chiefs. The Chiefs scored first once again, but the Hot Rods picked up their second straight come from behind win.
The top of the first opened with a leadoff walk to RF Scott Hurst who advanced to third on back to back groundouts. A RBI single from DH Elehuris Montero put the Chiefs on top 1-0.
It took until the bottom of the third inning for the Hot Rods to respond, but they did so in a big way. RF Emilio Gustave leadoff with a double and scored on a RBI single from 2B Zach Rutherford. C Zac Law brought home another run with a sac fly and DH Ronaldo Hernandez kept the line moving when he reached on an error that allowed 1B Brendan McKay to score. CF Carl Chester picked up the last RBI of the inning with a sac fly at the Hot Rods had an 5-1 lead.
RHP Tobias Myers got the start for the Hot Rods and he was strong after the first inning. He ended up throwing five innings allowing just five hits and four walks while sending two Chiefs down on strikes.
Bowling Green added onto their lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an sac fly from Gustave that made the score 6-1. The Hot Rods added two more in the next frame courtesy of back to back RBI singles from Chester and Gomez to give the Hot Rods the 8-1 lead.
RHP Tyler Zombro pitched the final four innings of the game without allowing any runs and picked up his first save of the season. He didn't walk anyone and only allowed three hits.
The Hot Rods and Chiefs conclude the three game series tomorrow with an education day game at 10:35am. The Hot Rods will be looking for the sweep and to extend their winning streak to 11 games. The Hot Rods will send RHP Austin Franklin (2-2, 4.23) to the hill and he will be opposed by RHP Alvaro Seijas (1-2, 5.01) for the Chiefs.
