Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
DAYTON, OHIO - The Dayton Dragons rallied from a 6-0 deficit Tuesday at Fifth Third Field for an 8-6 victory against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. With Tuesday's come-from-behind triumph, Dayton also grabbed a 2-0 lead in this three-game series.
Down six runs in the fourth inning, the Dragons (17-12) scored four runs and cut the deficit to 6-4. Narciso Crook's RBI double plated Miles Gordon and put Dayton on the scoreboard. John Sansone added a three-run home run later in the inning.
Another four-run outburst during the seventh put Dayton ahead, 8-6. With two outs and the bases loaded, Crook produced a three-run double to push the Dragons in front. Crook scored an insurance run on an RBI single from Stuart Fairchild.
The Kernels (14-12) held a 6-0 advantage early in the contest. Akil Baddoo came home via error in the first inning before Royce Lewis was driven in on Ben Rortvedt's RBI single. A third-inning error allowed Alex Kirilloff to score. Baddoo and Lewis hit back-to-back two-out RBI doubles in the top of the fourth prior to Kirilloff's RBI single.
Another strong night from Dayton's bullpen helped secure the win. Sarkis Ohanian (2-1) stranded an inherited runner in the sixth and left two aboard in the seventh within a winning performance. Tyler Buffett worked through a jam during the eighth for his second hold. Cory Thompson recorded a scoreless ninth inning to notch his second save in as many chances.
Nick Brown (0-1) was charged with a blown save and a loss Tuesday. Brown gave up four hits and four runs over two innings pitched.
This three-game series wraps up Wednesday with first pitch at 7:00 p.m. ET (6:00 p.m. CT). The probable pitchers are Kernels right-hander Bailey Ober (0-1, 19.29) and Dragons right-hander Adrian Rodriguez (1-0, 0.00).
