Loehr Sends Snappers to Walk-Off Win in 12th

BELOIT, WI - Trace Loehr hit a single to left field with the bases loaded to score Jack Meggs to give the Beloit Snappers (12-13) a walk-off 10-9 victory over the Great Lakes Loons (9-19) Monday night at Pohlman Field before 467fans.

Loehr stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one away in the bottom of the 12th inning. The Snappers second baseman then stepped in and sent a base hit over the third basemans head into left field to score Meggs to give the Snappers a 10-9 walk-off victory.

The game was tied after nine innings at 8-8, and both teams plated a run in the 11th inning to force the 12th.

A six-run eighth inning brought the Snappers back and put them ahead by a score of 7-5. The rally started with a walk to Loehr, and he was erased on an Lazaro Armenteros fielders choice. After Austin Beck walked, Logan Farrar sent a RBI double to score Armenteros, and Jordan Devencenzi followd with a two-run double plating both Beck and Farrar to bring the Snappers within a run as they trailed 5-4.

Jesus Lopez then emphatically ended that tie, and gave the Snappers a two-run edge with a three-run moon shot to center field.

Snappers starter Wyatt Marks was let off the hook, as the right-hander left with one out in the sixth inning with a 5-1 deficit. Marks surrendered the five runs on six hits in 5.1 innings while walking two batters and surrendering two home runs. For Marks, however, he did set a career-high in strikeouts with 11 punch outs, two more than his previous high of nine.

Ty Damron was called upon in relief of Marks, as the left-hander tossed 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out a pair.

Jesus Zambrano then tossed the eighth and ninth innings and surrendered two unearned runs on three hits while striking out a pair. Nick Highberger then tossed 10th and 11th innings allowing just one run on one hits while striking out three.

Heath Bowers came on for the 12th inning and surrendered just one run, and picked up his second win of the season.

In his full season debut, Armenteros went 1-for-5 with two runs scored, he had a sacrifice fly in the 11th inning to tie the game at 9, as he scored Jesus Lopez with the sac fly to left field.

The series continues with game two of the three-game set tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. against the Great Lakes Loons. Right-hander Xavier Altamirano (0-1, 2.38) will start for the Snappers, and the Loons will send right-hander Melvin Jimenez (0-4, 7.47).
