South Bend, IN: Going for their second series win in the past week, the South Bend Cubs received a quality start from starting pitcher Erich Uelmen on Tuesday night with five innings and five strikeouts. Despite the strong performance from the right hander, the Cubs left six runners in scoring position on the night and lost the game 4-1.

South Bend continued streak of hot starts with a run in the bottom of the 1st inning off of starter Luis Madero . With Rafael Narea at third base, Miguel Amaya came up and grounded a softly hit ball out to second base. Burlington exchanged an out for a run as Narea scored the Cubs only run of the game.

Austin Filiere continued his hot hitting stretch in the game with a 2/3 night including a double down the left field line into the corner. His batting average now soars back to .305.

Each starting pitcher finished with a quality start of five innings. Madero earned the win to bring his record to 1-2 on the season. In his five innings, he allowed just the run in five hits and struck out five.

Uelmen dominated on the mound until the 3rd inning, where he allowed three consecutive hits to start the frame. Right fielder Brandon Marsh drove in Leonardo Rivas and Jo Adell on a bases clearing double to give the Bees the 2-1 lead after the top of the 3rd.

Burlington added a run in the 7th and 9th innings to win the game by three runs. Both Yapson Gomez and Brian Glowicki worked out of the Cubs bullpen on Tuesday. Each of them went two innings and allowed a run. Glowicki struck out three batters in his outing to bring his season total to 15.

With the loss, the Cubs record drops to 12-16 on the season. They will have another chance for the series win in the rubber match tomorrow morning from Four Winds Field at 10:35 a.m. Left hander Ricky Tyler Thomas is scheduled to start for the Cubs. Thomas, South Bend's opening day starter, has struck out 24 batters in 24 innings pitched.
