Comstock Park, MI - The Clinton LumberKings picked up their first extra inning win of the season on Monday night at Fifth Third Ballpark with an 8-7, 10-inning, win over the West Michigan Whitecaps.

The scoring started immediately for Clinton (16-11) as Joseph Rosa took the third pitch of the game out to right for his second home run of the season.

The Whitecaps (17-14) answered the run in the bottom of the fourth to start a string of five straight innings where they put up at least one run. The run in the fourth was the only run allowed by LumberKings starter Tommy Romero over his four innings of work. Five walks issued by Romero forced him from the game after just four innings.

Clinton took their biggest lead of the night with a four-run fifth inning that started with a Dimas Ojeda home run to right, his third long fly of the season. Two more runs in the top of the sixth inning by Clinton gave them a 7-2 lead.

West Michigan Finally caught the LumberKings in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out in the frame, Ignacio Valdez singled into left to score Jordan Pearce, tying the game at seven.

In the top of the tenth the LumberKings scored their free base runner against Whitecaps reliever Max Green (0-1). Jack Larsen lined a single to left to score Rosa and give the LumberKings their second lead of the game.

Kyle Wilcox (1-0) worked around West Michigan's free runner in the 10th with strikeouts of Valdez and Alexis Garcia to end the game and give Clinton their first extra inning win with the new extra inning rules in effect.

The night marked several season highs. 15 hits allowed to Whitecap batters were the most surrendered in a game by LumberKings pitching. While Clinton set a new season high for runners left on base, 15, and for longest game time, 3 hours and 52 minutes.

The LumberKings play game two of their three-game set with the West Michigan Whitecaps on Tuesday night. Clinton will throw left-hander Ray Kerr (0-1, 8.78) in game two of the three-game set while the Whitecaps will counter with righty Elvin Rodriguez (2-1, 5.59). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
