Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Lansing Lugnuts scored five runs in the second inning and never looked back on their way to an 11-4 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Rattlers saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with the loss.
The Lugnuts (19-13) went out in front with five runs in the top of the second inning. Ryan Noda drove in the first run of the inning with a one-out double. An error by Gabriel GarcÃa on a grounder off the bat of Javier Hernandez let Noda score. Rattlers starting pitcher Bowden Francis walked the next batter and gave up an infield single to load the bases. He would throw a pair of run-scoring wild pitches and give up a sacrifice fly to let in the final three runs of the inning.
Lansing tacked on to the lead in the fourth against reliever Carlos Herrera. Kevin Smith, who had four hits in the game, drove in the first run with a single. Yeltsin Gudiño had a two-run single later in the inning. The final run of the frame scored on a sacrifice fly.
Herrera, who walked six in the game, walked Gudiño with the bases loaded in the fifth inning and the Lugnuts had a 10-0 lead.
Wisconsin (13-18) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when Gabriel GarcÃa launched a solo homer with two outs in the frame.
Gudiño got that run back for Lansing with a RBI grounder in the top of the seventh for an 11-1 lead.
Nick Roscetti plated two Timber Rattlers runs after the stretch with a bases loaded single.
GarcÃa drove in the final run of the game with his third hit of the game, an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
The winning streak may have ended at five games, but some of the Rattlers individual streaks continued on Tuesday. Joantgel Segovia went 2-for-5 to move his current hitting streak to eleven games and his on-base streak to 22 games. Demi Orimoloye had a single in the first inning to get his hitting streak to eight games and his on-base streak to fifteen games.
The final game of the series is Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Alec Bettinger (1-3, 5.92) is set to be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Maximo Castillo (2-0, 3.60) is scheduled to start for the Lugnuts. Game time is 6:35pm
