Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, IA - The Quad Cities River Bandits used the pitching of Peter Solomon and Tyler Ivey as well as multiple RBI from three different players to defeat the Fort Wayne TinCaps 9-0 at Modern Woodmen Park on Tuesday. The shutout was the third in the last six games for the River Bandits pitching staff.
The Bandits put up a crooked number to get the scoring started in the second inning. Five consecutive hitters reached base safely against Fort Wayne starter, and top pitching prospect, MacKenzie Gore. With one out, Jake Adams and Colton Shaver grounded back-to-back singles through the left side for base hits. A walk to Cody Bohanek loaded the bases for Marcos Almonte, who promptly cleared them with a double into the gap in right center. The next hitter, Corey Julks, followed with an RBI double of his own to extend the lead to 4-0.Â
Gore departed following the second inning and was replaced by fellow left-hander Tom Cosgrove in the third. Cosgrove allowed at least one run in each the third, fourth and fifth innings. Bryan De La Cruz pushed the margin to 5-0 in the third with a solo home run to left field. The long ball was the first of the year for the outfielder. In the fourth, Bohanek walked, stole second base, and then came around to score on an RBI single from Julks to make it 6-0.
Jake Adams drove in two runs with his double off the wall in the sixth inning, scoring both Jonathan Arauz and Bohanek. With two outs, Colton Shaver lifted a fly ball into shallow right field that was dropped by right fielder Tirso Ornelas, allowing Adams to score and Shaver to roll into third. The miscue widened the gap to 9-0.
Solomon, the starting pitcher, threw 5.0 scoreless innings and struck out a season-high eight hitters. He scattered three hits and walked two. Ivey came out of the bullpen with 4.0 scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and struck out seven while walking a pair.
The River Bandits totaled ten hits with five of them going for extra-bases. Almonte drove in three runs with two doubles. Adams and Julks both finished with two hits and two RBI.
The River Bandits (17-13) and TinCaps (14-18) close out their only meeting of the regular season on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. RHP Yohan Ramirez (2-2, 3.94) will get the ball for the River Bandits and RHP Emmanuel Ramirez (1-1, 1.59) will throw for the TinCaps.
