Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Keith Castillo laced another double, picked an RBI, a run, and a walk on Friday night, but the Hot Rods (21-19, 62-48) dropped the finale of their seven-game home stand by a 7-2 score to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (20-20, 50-59). The loss snapped the Hot Rods six-game winning streak, but still left them with an impressive 6-1 home stand as they hit the road for the next seven days.
Fort Wayne jumped ahead early, scoring five runs over the second and third innings against Braulio Lara (L; 3-9) to build an early 5-0 lead. The big blow in those frames came in the third on a three-run homer by Connor Powers, the first of his two home runs on the night.
After Fort Wayne tacked on another run in the fourth, Castillo finally got the Hot Rods on the board in the bottom of the frame. With a man at first and one out, Castillo ripped a double to deep center field to score Julio Cedeno and put the Hot Rods on the board at 6-1. Nick Schwaner followed Castillo with a run-scoring single to make it a 6-2 deficit after four innings.
Lara left the game after four, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Omar Bencomo came on in the fifth and allowed a lead-off home run to Powers to push Fort Wayne back on top by a 7-2 score. Bencomo would actually finish the game, throwing five full innings with just five hits and one run.
Dennis O'Grady (2-0) earned the win for Fort Wayne, allowing just two earned runs over 5.2 innings.
The Hot Rods now hit the road for a seven-game road trip through Indiana beginning Saturday night in South Bend. RHP Wilking Rodriguez (0-0, 2.38) takes the ball in the opener against South Bend Silver Hawks RHP Jeff Shields (7-10, 4.47). First pitch against the Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate on Saturday is at 4:30 PM CDT. You can follow the broadcast with Tom Gauthier beginning at 4:05 PM CDT on 1340 AM WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.
The Hot Rods return home on Saturday, August 13 to begin a six-game home stand against South Bend and the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays). The home stand begins with postgame fireworks following the 7:05 PM game on August 13. For tickets, visit www.bghotrods.com.
