Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH - Trotwood native and 2011 national champion Chris Pearson has announced that he will be participating in Friday Night Fights, to be held at Fifth Third Field on August 12 at 7 p.m. The bout will be the last of Pearson's amateur career, he announced, before he turns pro.

"He's always wanted to fight in front of his hometown crowd," his father Milton Pearson says. "He enjoys coming home and getting to do it on a baseball field. Even in Colorado during the Olympic trials, people were asking about this event. I think it will be a great place for him to finish his amateur career.

"There have been a lot of pats on the back from the community. Chris has had a lot of people supporting him on Twitter and Facebook. A lot of big name boxers have reached out to him to offer their support. He's happy about it and we're proud of the fact that people are looking for him to do great things.

All of the big promoters and managers have already reached out to him. I don't see it being a real long process until he turns pro."

"We are so very pleased that Chris will be fighting here at Fifth Third Field before turning pro. It is great to see a young man in our community represent himself, his family and our region in such a first class and professional manner," added Dragons President Robert Murphy.

The evening will feature at least ten bouts, and will see the playing surface at Fifth Third Field transformed into a boxing ring surrounded by seating. Tickets are on sale now and prices are $15, $10 and $7 for stadium seats, $320 for a ringside table of 8 (which includes a buffet meal) and $15 per suite ticket. Tickets are available at the Dragons box office and through Ticketmaster (800-745-3000 and ticketmaster.com).

The boxing ring will be placed behind home plate and the backstop netting will be taken down. Tables will be placed around the ring on the playing field. The Fifth Third Field seating bowl, the club level, and stadium luxury suites will also be used in similar fashion to Dragons baseball games. Concession stands and suite level catering will be available as usual.
