Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The River Bandits took advantage of costly errors to down the Cedar Rapids Kernels 3-2 in the series finale at Perfect Game Field on Friday night.

The Bandits plated the game's first run in the top of the third when Cody Stanley reached on a fielding error by Kernels second baseman Rolando Gomez with the bases loaded. That brought Kolten Wong (1-for-5, R) home from third after he began the inning with a single.

In the fourth, the Bandits made it 2-0 on a solo homer by Colin Walsh (1-for-1, 2 R, RBI, 3 BB). The blast was his third of the year.

The River Bandits took advantage of another Kernels error in the top of the sixth when Wong reached on Gomez's second error of the game. Walsh scored from third to put the Bandits up 3-0. Both Oscar Taveras (2-for-4) and Michael Swinson (2-for-4) had a pair of hits to lead the Bandits offensively.

Zach Russell (6-8) was tough to solve for the Kernels as he worked 6 2/3 innings allowing just two seventh inning runs before getting lifted for Angel De Jesus (4). Russell picked up the win after giving up just six hits, issuing two walks and striking out four batters. De Jesus worked the final 2 1/3 innings without allowing a run to earn the save. He allowed just one hit and struck out two in the outing.

Justin La Tempa was saddled with the loss for Cedar Rapids. He was charged with all three Bandit runs though only two were earned. The right-hander struck out four and walked three over 5 2/3 innings.

The Bandits will travel to Beloit on Saturday to open a four-game set with the Snappers. First pitch from Pohlman Field is set for 7:00.
