Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Even though the River Bandits are out of town over the weekend, Modern Woodmen Park will still be creating life-long memories. On Saturday, August 6, the Illinois and Iowa Quad Cities Challenger Leagues will be playing with each other at the 'Home of the Bandits' in the Great River Challenge.
" The Challenger Little League program is a terrific one, great for kids and families alike said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "The mission of these two leagues is something we really support, and it's a privilege for us to partner with them. The opportunity for these young athletes to play at Modern Woodmen Park is one they and their families will remember for years to come."
The two leagues will play five one-hour games of varying skill levels throughout the day beginning at 2:00 p.m. Admission to the games is free and concessions will be available with part of the proceeds benefiting the two leagues.
"This is a special opportunity for baseball fans and supporters of our area's young athletes," said River Bandits general manager Kirk Goodman. "To see the smiles on the kids faces is something very special. We're happy to have the chance to host this event and we enjoy working with the two leagues every year."
The Challenger Little League enables mentally and physically challenged children to play organized baseball. The Challenger Leagues have the participants divided into three different levels to allow for safe and fun baseball games. The Challenger Leagues rely on volunteers to coach and manage the teams, most of whom are parents of these special needs children. The Challenger Leagues also have volunteers who act as "buddies" and help the Challenger players on the field and at bat.
This will mark the third consecutive year the two Challenger Leagues have met at Modern Woodmen Park for this event.
UP NEXT: The River Bandits are back in the playoffs for the second straight year. Ticket prices for postseason games remain the same as regular season tickets. Playoff tickets can be purchased online, in person or by phone at (563) 3-BANDIT. Regular season group rates still apply for postseason games.
