Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, MI - The Great Lakes Loons were unable to overcome the visiting Lake County Captains' early run production in Friday night's game, eventually losing 4-1 at Dow Diamond before a crowd of 4,948 fans.
Loons starter Ryan Christenson surrendered two runs to the Captains in the first inning on three hits; Ronny Rodriguez's double scoring the two runs. The Captains found another run in the second inning when Carlos Moncrief singled in Nick Bartolone, who had singled to get on base.
In six innings of work, Christenson allowed four runs, the fourth coming in his final inning on another Rodriguez double. The lefty surrendered nine hits and was pinned with the loss, his eighth of the season. John Housey and Andrew Pevsner came in to provide Great Lakes three hitless innings of relief.
Leading the Loons offensively was outfielder Leon Landry, who went two-for-five with a pair of two-out singles. Landry is pleased with his production, and chalks up the loss as something that comes with the game.
"It was just one of those nights," Landry said. "I felt that we were up for the game, we just couldn't cash in runs when we needed to. I feel like we played pretty solid defense, but they just got more runs across the board than we did tonight."
Catcher Michael Pericht also had two hits on the night, going two-for-four with a pair of singles. The Loons finished with seven hits on the night and left 11 on base. The team's lone run came in the second inning, when outfielder Jon Garcia hit into a groundout that scored Nick Akins, who reached base on a single to begin the inning.
The loss ends the Loons five-game win streak, and Lake County's run in the first inning ended the Loons 19-inning shutout streak.
Picking up his sixth win was Captains starting pitcher J.D. Reichenbach, who limited the Loons to one hit through five innings.
The Loons will hit the road Saturday morning and head to Grand Rapids to begin a three-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps, game time at 7:00 p.m. Getting the start for the Loons will be RHP Zach Lee (7-3, 3.22) against the Whitecaps RHP Victor Larez (1-2, 6.19). All Loons games are broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
The Great Lakes Loons are a fifth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
