South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Lansing, MI - Gerson Montilla hit a three run homer as part of a five run sixth inning for South Bend, leading the Silver Hawks to a 6-4 win over the Lansing Lugnuts on Friday night and a four game series split.
Down 3-1, the Silver Hawks put two runners on base against Sean Nolin (LP, 2-3) when Matt Helm singled and Yazy Arbelo reached on a fielder's choice combined with an error. Montilla stepped up and worked a 3-1 count, drilling the next pitch over the left field fence for his fifth home run of the year and to give the Silver Hawks the lead for good.
South Bend wasn't finished however, as Roberto Ortiz followed with a bunt single and later scored from third on a wild pitch from Aleson Escalante (ND). David Narodowski capped the scoring with a solo homer of his own - his first since joining the Hawks on Monday - putting the lead at 6-3.
Mike Bolsinger (WP, 5-5) followed up his eight innings and one hit performance from Sunday in strong fashion. The righty allowed four runs but earned the win for the second start in a row to even his record on the season.
The Silver Hawks bullpen kept the lead intact, with Kable Hogben (ND) pitching two scoreless frames and Blake Cooper (SV, 9) tossing a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save since June 30th.
Narodowski finished a triple shy of the cycle for the Silver Hawks and Helm was on base all four times he came to the plate with a single, double, and two walks. Arbelo had an early RBI single for South Bend, extending his league leading total to 81 on the year.
Lansing was led by solo homers from Garis Pena and Marcus Knecht while Jake Marisnick contributed a two-run double in the third inning.
The Silver Hawks return home to Coveleski Stadium and take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) at 5:30 PM Eastern Time on Saturday. Gates open at 4:00 PM with RHP Jeff Shields (7-10, 4.47 ERA) starting for the Silver Hawks against Bowling Green's RHP Wilking Rodriguez (0-0, 2.38 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 5:10 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
