Hitmen get past Hurricanes

Calgary, AB - Jakob Stukel scored twice, his team-leading 28th and 29th goals of the season powering the Calgary Hitmen to a 3-2 victory over the Eastern Conference leading Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Rookie forward Dawson Martin also netted his first career Western Hockey League goal for Calgary, which turned out to be the game winner.

Ryan Vandervlis and Cory Millette replied for the Hurricanes who never led, falling behind by scores of 2-0 and 3-1.

Goaltender Nik Amundrud made 25 saves to record the win in the Hitmen net, preserving the victory with a partial breakaway save off of Hurricane captain Tyler Wong in the dying seconds.

Calgary outshot Lethbridge 38-27, beating the `Canes for the third time to square the six-game season series.

The Hitmen, 34-22-1-2, will round out their busy weekend on Sunday, Feb. 21 at home against Medicine Hat. Game time is 4:00 p.m. for Sunday Funday presented by Booster Juice and McKnight 24 Hour Veterinary Hospital. The day features face painters and a post-game family skate. All participants under 18 are required to wear a helmet. A special kids ticket price of $7.50 (plus applicable fees) for children 12 and under is available for Sunday home games.
