SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Chiefs' prospect Ty Smith earned a silver medal at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway as Team Canada lost in the tournament final on Sunday, 5-2 to Team USA.

Smith, who was selected by the Chiefs first overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft out of Lloydminster, Alberta, served as Team Captain for the Canadian team as they went 4-2-0-0 in the tournament. After losing to Russia in their first game (4-3), the Canadians rolled off wins against Finland (5-1), the United States (4-2) and Norway (6-0) before beating Finland 4-3 in a shootout in their semi-final game.

Smith finished the Games with 2 goals and 3 assists to go along with a +3 rating. He was one of five WHL prospects on Team Canada and one of eight to participate in the tournament.

The 15-year-old defenseman made his WHL debut on January 13, earning 2 assists in the Chiefs' 9-2 win over Saskatoon.
