Vancouver Giants News Release

Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants defeated the Kamloops Blazers 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday at the Pacific Coliseum. The Giants got their goals from Trevor Cox, Chase Lang and Radovan Bondra. Cox also scored the shootout winner.

The Giants were awarded an early five minute power play after Kamloops captain Matt Needham was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for kneeing after a hit on Giants' defenceman Dmitry Osipov. The G-Men weren't able to cash in on the man advantage, but with just over a minute left in the period, Cox potted his 13th of the season on a rebound to put the Giants up 1-0.

Lang extended Vancouver's lead in the first minute of the second period, scoring his 10th goal in his last 11 games. Bondra found the back of the net a couple of minutes later to put the G-Men ahead by three, scoring from the left circle after a give-and-go with Carter Popoff. The Blazers struck back with two goals of their own before the end of the frame as Jiri Smejkal and Nick Chyzowski both beat Giants' net minder Jake Morrissey to make it 3-2.

The Blazers tied the game midway through the third period after a goal by Gage Quinney, and the game would need overtime. In the extra period, Ty Ronning scored on a 2-on-1, but the goal was disallowed because the play was ruled offside, eventually sending the game to the shootout. Morrissey stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout, and Cox scored the lone goal to give the G-Men the win.

The Giants are in action on Tuesday when they visit the Seattle Thunderbirds. Face-off is slated for 7:05pm.

Vancouver's next home game is on Friday night when the Giants host the Kelowna Rockets. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm. For tickets, go to TicketLeader.ca or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
