Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen opened a home-and-home set with the Rebels tonight on the road in Red Deer. Calgary came back to defeat Red Deer in a thrilling 4-3 overtime win.
Calgary opened up the game scoring at the Peavey Mart with Sean Tschigerl's 22nd goal of the season with helpers from Maxim Muranov and Riley Fiddler-Schultz. Kai Uchasz would capitalize on the power play to tie the game at 7:17 in the first. Red Deer would follow up with another from Craig Armstrong but was answered by Tschigerl's second of the night of a drive to the net to tie the game. Dwayne Jean Jr would restore the Red Deer lead with under five minutes to go in period one. The second period remained scoreless despite multiple power play opportunities on both sides. The third was looking like it was going the same way, until multiple man advantage opportunities for Calgary in the last three minutes of the third.
With Red Deer in the box and Brayden Peters on the bench, Carter Yakemchuk threw one at the net beating Chase Coward with 0.6 seconds to go to tie the game and push it to overtime. An eventful fourth period came to an end with Riley Fiddler-Schultz pulling out the heroics, scoring to give Calgary the win.
Sean Tschigerl earned first star with two goals and an assist. Brayden Peters made 31 saves in tonight's victory.
Calgary will face Red Deer again tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, Mar. 11 back at Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is 2:00 p.m. on a day where Calgary will honour Bret 'The Hitman' Hart for the outstanding contributions he has made to the franchise when a 'Forever A Hitmen' banner for Hart will be raised and remain on permanent display at the 'Dome. The pre-game ceremony will enshrine Hart as the fourth inductee in the 'Forever A Hitmen' program. It's all part of the third annual Bret 'Hitman' Hart game presented by Vallen. Players will wear a specially designed jersey reflective of their namesake while fans will also be treated to a post-game on-ice wresting show presented by Dungeon Wrestling.
