Building Momentum

Last week saw the Winterhawks not only return to the VMC, but return to the win column as well with a disciplined 3-1 victory over Everett on Sunday. Coupled with a valiant effort in a 4-3 OT loss the night before, Portland has now recorded points in back-to-back games since early February.

It's a positive step as the team builds up steam before playoff season, which the Hawks will kick off on home ice at the end of this month. Portland is guaranteed to finish no lower than fourth in the Western Conference, and needs to accrue four points (two wins or two PG losses) to keep clear of the Prince George Cougars and hold onto the third seed. Two points tonight would be a great way for the Hawks to keep the positive vibes rolling while inching closer to cementing their top-three seed in the postseason.

New Guy

Earlier today, the Winterhawks announced that forward Kyle McDonough has been called up as an affiliate player. McDonough, 16, recorded 16 goals and 21 assists for 31 points with the Oilers' U18 AAA program this year, ranking second in team scoring in his first year as a U18 player. The Langdon, Alta. native also posted a goal and an assist across three playoff games with the Oilers this season. Last month, McDonough also notched one goal and two assists with Team Alberta at the 2023 Canada Winter Games, starring alongside fellow Winterhawks prospect Ryan Miller.

Keep an eye out for #18 tonight - McDonough is available to make his WHL debut should Head Coach Mike Johnston elect to name him in the lineup.
