
Herrera Named MVP, Most Outstanding MLB Prospect in the SAL

ASHEVILLE, NC - Rosell Herrera received the South Atlantic League's top honor Thursday morning as he was named Most Valuable Player as well as Most Outstanding MLB Prospect. Herrera was also selected as the shortstop on the 2013 All South Atlantic League All-Star Team. Tom Murphy, who was promoted to Tulsa on August 4, was selected as the top catcher while Francisco Sosa was named as one of the league's top three outfielders.
With just five games remaining, Herrera is batting .343 with 16 Home Runs and 76 RBI's. The Tourists shortstop has scored 83 runs, recorded 162 hits, stolen 21 bases, and has 50 multi-hit games this season. Prior to being promoted, Murphy hit .288 in 80 games with Asheville. The Tourists backstop finished with 19 Home Runs and 74 RBI's. Sosa is currently second in the league with a .314 batting average and leads the circuit with 88 RBI's. The San Pedro de Macoris native has also swiped 30 bases to go along with his 19 Home Runs.
All three players were selected as mid-season All-Stars to go along with their post-season recognition. Overall, the three Tourists selections are tied with the Hickory Crawdads for the most players represented by any one club on the All SAL All-Star Team. The Tourists return to McCormick Field to face the Augusta GreenJackets on Friday night. The homestand will last through Monday with Fireworks scheduled on Friday and Sunday night. Monday's season finale will begin at 2:05pm.
