Lexington Legends News Release
Daniel Stumpf of the Lexington Legends has been named to the South Atlantic League post-season All-Star team, which was announced by the league Thursday.
Stumpf was chosen as the All-Star team's left-handed pitcher. He has a record of 10 wins and nine losses, and is currently sixth in the league in earned run average with a mark of 3.03. Hitters are batting just .212 against Stumpf this year, which is second best in the league among starting pitchers. He leads the league in complete games with four, which ties the Legends record set by Mike Nannini in 2001.
Stumpf pitched a no-hitter July 2 against Greenville at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Stumpf, 22, a native of Humble, Texas, was a ninth round choice of the Kansas City Royals in the June 2012 draft. He pitched in relief for Burlington of the Appalachian League in 2012, and tied for sixth in the league in saves with five. He has been a starter for the Legends throughout the 2013 season.
Stumpf is scheduled for one more start. He will go against West Virginia in the final game of the season Monday at 12:05 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
"Daniel Stumpf gave our fans a great moment in Legends history with the no-hitter, but he has been one of the league's best pitchers all season long," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "His selection to the post-season All-Star team is well-deserved. We're looking forward to seeing him pitch one more time this season."
The Legends return home Friday to begin the season's final series. They will take on West Virginia Friday and Saturday nights at 7:05 p.m., Sunday at 1:35 and Monday at 12:05. For ticket information, visit lexingtonlegends.com or call (859) 422-7867.
