Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The South Atlantic League on Thursday released the 2013 Annual All-Star Team, with Joey Gallo, Nick Williams and Ryan Rua representing the Hickory Crawdads. The 'Dads three players ties them with the Asheville Tourists for the most of any SAL Team.
The Annual All-Star Team was voted on by the 14 South Atlantic League Team's Field Managers, General Managers, Sports Writers and Broadcasters for a total of 56 votes. Unlike the Mid-Season All-Stars, there is only one combined team for both the Northern and Southern Divisions, and teams cannot vote for their own players.
Gallo, 19, was voted in at third base after also representing the Northern Division in the Mid-Season All-Star game. The Las Vegas, Nevada native currently leads the SAL with 32 home runs, a number that also ties him for the most home runs in a single season in Crawdads history. Gallo also leads the league with a .565 slugging percentage, while ranking second with 56 total extra base hits. Gallo was selected by the Rangers in the 1st Round (39th overall) in the 2012 June Draft out of Bishop Gorman HS (NV).
Williams, 19, was named as an All-Star outfielder for the 'Dads. A 2nd Round pick by the Rangers out of Galveston Ball (TX) HS in 2012, Williams currently leads the league and is tied for the Crawdads single-season record with 12 triples on the year. Williams also ranks second in the league with a .560 slugging percentage and fifth in batting average with a .298 mark.
Rua, 23, was voted in as the Designated Hitter after also being named a Mid-Season All-Star for the Crawdads. The Amherst, Ohio native led the SAL with 29 home runs and 82 RBIs for the Crawdads before being promoted to the Frisco RoughRiders (AA) on August 8th. Prior to his departure, Rua was hitting .251/.356/.559 while primarily playing second base for the 'Dads. Rua was selected by the Rangers in the 17th Round of the 2011 June Draft out of Lake Erie College.
