Power Qualify for 2013 SAL Playoffs

CHARLESTON, WV (August 29, 2013) - The West Virginia Power, a Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, have clinched a spot in the South Atlantic League's postseason. The Power will meet the Hagerstown Suns in a best-of-three, Divisional Championship Series starting at Appalachian Power Park on September 4.

West Virginia is currently tied for the division lead with Hagerstown with four games remaining. Should the Suns win the second half title, the team with the second best overall record qualifies for the postseason. The Power clinched their place in the postseason when Hickory was eliminated from contention with a loss to the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Thursday evening.

Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series will be played in Charleston starting at 7:05 pm on Wednesday, September 4. The game will be presented by Bert Wolfe Ford, Thomas Health System, Suddenlink, V100, and US Foods. Tickets will be free of charge and will be available Tuesday, September 4, at 9:00 am at the Power box office.

In addition, the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a free playoff t-shirt.

After a travel day, the clubs will play Friday, September 6, at Hagerstown's Municipal Stadium. Game three, if necessary, will be played on Saturday September 7.

Hagerstown was the Northern Division's first-half champion after finishing with a 38-29 record. West Virginia finished two and a half games back in third place.

Savannah, the Southern Division's first-half winner, will play Augusta in the other Divisional Championship Series. The GreenJackets clinched the second-half Southern Division title on August 28.

The South Atlantic League Championship series will begin on September 9 with the Northern Division champion hosting games one and two. This series is a best of five and will be concluded in the home park of the Southern Divisional round winner.

West Virginia has made the playoffs for the third time in franchise history and first since becoming a Pirates affiliate prior to the 2009 season. The Power currently have 78 wins during the 2013 season, second-most in any single season since moving to Appalachian Power Park in 2005.
