Hens Halt Late Rally to Escape with 2-1 Win

Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY. - A close play at the plate in the ninth inning proved to be the difference as Cole Peterson slid under a tag by catcher Chris Okey to propel the Toledo Mud Hens to a 2-1 win over the Louisville Bats Tuesday night at Slugger Field.
Peterson doubled and took third on a wild pitch with one out in the ninth inning. Juan Centero then grounded to shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez, who whipped a throw to the plate on the advancing Peterson. As Okey applied the tag, Peterson was ruled to have avoided the Bats backstop to score and give Toledo a 2-0 lead.
Louisville rallied in the ninth, cutting the lead to just one run when Mike Freeman singled, took second on a base hit from Cheslor Cuthbert and scored on a bloop hit to centerfield from Rodriguez. With the tying run on second, the Bats pressed their advantage, but ultimately had the potential tying run cut down at third base when pinch runner Errol Robinson was caught stealing by Toledo catcher Centero.
Drew Carlton recorded a strikeout to erase the threat and preserve the Mud Hens' victory.
Toledo opened the game with a leadoff homer before Bats pitchers followed with 25 consecutive scoreless outs from the first through one out in the ninth frame. Josh Osich (2.0ip), Brandon Finnegan (3.0ip), RJ Alaniz (2.0ip), Phillip Diehl (1.0ip) and Art Warren (0.1ip) combined for the strong effort.
The Bats and Toledo will continue their series Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Slugger Field. RHP Riley O'Brien (0-1, 2.76) is scheduled to face off against RHP Logan Shore (1-1, 4.50).
