Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Marcus Nguyen, Clay Hanus and Cross Hanas each tallied a goal in a span of 4:34 across the third period and overtime as the Winterhawks rallied from a two-goal deficit to knock off the Silvertips 5-4 in OT on in Everett on Saturday.
Everett opened the scoring late in the second as Olen Zellweger found twine on the power play, but Portland quickly responded with two goals in the next two minutes to take a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. Robbie Fromm-Delorme first leveled the score with a long-range bomb that snuck through Koen MacInnes, then Jaydon Dureau put the Hawks ahead with a one-timer from the slot that found the five-hole at 15:46.
Much of the third period belonged to Everett as Jacob Wright, Jackson Berezowski and Aidan Sutter each found twine to erase Portland's lead and build up a two-goal advantage for the Silvertips, but with less than four minutes to play, Nguyen kicked off the comeback with a bullet shot from the high slot to make it 4-3. Then, with 14 seconds to play, Gabe Klassen dug the puck loose in the corner, found Hanas at the right circle who then found a waiting Hanus across the crease to tie things up at four and force overtime.
After just over a minute of play in the extra frame, Jack O'Brien carried the puck into the zone on a rush and found Luca Cagnoni streaking down the right wing for a quick pass over to Hanas on the back door, who made no mistake.
Taylor Gauthier, appearing in his ninth consecutive game for Portland, stopped 40 of 44 shots in the win.
The Winterhawks now head home to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds at the VMC on Saturday. Puck drop is set for 6:00 P.M.
