KELOWNA, BC- The Prince George Cougars (22-37-2-1) ended their five-game road trip with a 9-2 setback to the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place on Friday night.
Jonas Brøndberg and Carter MacAdams scored in a losing effort. Brøndberg's goal came just 90-seconds into the game, as his dump in from the neutral zone took a funny bounce off the glass and into an open net. MacAdams scored right off a face-off four and half minutes into the second frame.
Tyler Brennan started for Prince George but was replaced by Ty Young late in the second period. Brennan conceded eight goals on 28 shots in 36-minutes of work. Young stopped 10 of 11 in 23-minutes.
It was another tough start for Prince George, as the Rockets scored four times on 17 shots, as they led 4-1 after 20 minutes. Kelowna scored four more times in the second and added one in the third.
Special teams struggled in the loss, as the Rockets scored three power play goals on four chances. The Cougars' power play went 0-2.
Prince George is two points clear of the Spokane Chiefs for eighth place in the Western Conference. The Chiefs picked up a 6-5 regulation win over Kamloops on Friday.
The Cougars have Saturday off, before returning home to face the Blazers at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 3rd.
GAME NOTES
Friday was the most goals the Cougars have surrendered this season, as the previous high was eight. Brøndberg's goal was his first as a Cougar and first of the season. MacAdams has four goals in his last two games in Kelowna. Prince George has six games left in the regular season: four at home.
