Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, Sask. - Sloan Stanick had two goals, but the Prince Albert Raiders (25-33-4-1) dropped a 4-2 game to the Brandon Wheat Kings (31-25-3-2) on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Rapid City, Man. product's pair in the loss gave him a total of 21 on the season. Landon Kosior also had two assists.
With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 10th place in the Eastern Conference, falling a point behind the Calgary Hitmen at 56 points. The Raiders, who currently have 55 points, are four points back of the Swift Current Broncos for the final playoff spot with two games at hand.
Brandon got the opening goal following a fortunate bounce for the Wheat Kings. Nolan Ritchie's shot was kicked out by Tikhon Chaika but the rebound hit a Raider in front and crossed the line to put the Wheat Kings up 7:16 in the period.
The Raiders drew even on a second-period power play with 5:17 to play in the frame. Evan Herman's shot from the top of the right faceoff circle hit a stick on the way to the net that fooled Ethan Kruger. Stanick collected the puck in front and was able to tuck a backhand past Kruger to make it a 1-1 game.
The Wheat Kings regained the lead 4:17 into the third period. Charlie Elick's point shot was tipped in front by Brett Hyland. Chaika got a piece of the redirection but it trickled through the goaltender and over the goal line to give Brandon the 2-1 lead.
Kosior had a chance to tie it on a power play midway through the third. Stanick, who was stationed the right of the net, set up the defenceman with a pass at the bottom of the left faceoff circle. However, Kosior sent his shot off the crossbar.
That was the best chance for the Raiders before Nate Danielson hit the empty net from inside of the Wheat Kings' end with 1:48 left to give Brandon a 3-1 lead.
Stanick got the Raiders back within one with 56.1 seconds remaining. He collected the rebound off Kruger's pads at the goal line and stuffed it inside the left post for his second of the game to make it 3-2.
The Wheat Kings added another empty netter, this one coming off the stick of Chad Nychuck, with 28 seconds remaining to wrap up the scoring at 4-2.
Chaika finished the game with 15 saves in the loss. Kruger made 35 saves to pick up the win.
The Raiders are back at home to wrap up their three-game homestand on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at SaskTix.ca and at the Raiders Box Office beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.
