Gulls To Deliver Teddy Bears To Children's Hospital
December 8, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls will be delivering the stuffed toys collected from their sixth annual "Teddy Bear Toss" to patients at Children's Hospital Tuesday as part of the 15th annual Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive. Gulls Chief Operating Officer Tera Black, Director of Corporate Sales Alan Friedman, and mascot Baby Gull will attend and help deliver the toys.
"We feel that this is an excellent opportunity to once again help Children's Hospital," Black said. "This event is all about the kids and the more we can help and donate to them the better."
The 15th annual Teddy Bear Drive will begin at the Balboa Park Club at 8 a.m. A motorcade will leave at approximately 9 a.m. and drive to Children's Hospital, arriving at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The teddy bears being delivered have been collected through many community organizations for the Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive, which has collected 36,089 teddy bears (as of Dec. 7). The Gulls helped collect about 2,000 stuffed toys at their sixth annual "Teddy Bear Toss," which was held at the Home Opener on Nov. 5.
Since Children's Hospital first opened its doors in 1954, their mission has been "to restore, sustain and enhance the health and developmental potential of children." It's the only designated pediatric trauma center and only area hospital dedicated solely to pediatric care. Their goal is to help create a region where all children go to school healthy and ready to learn how to be productive, responsible citizens. In addition to caring for children at its main campus in Kearny Mesa, Calif., Children's Hospital has 15 neighborhood centers offering primary care and specialized services. Children's Hospital is also active in numerous community outreach programs, including health education, early intervention and counseling, child abuse prevention and child safety issues.
The Gulls conclude their longest homestand of the year Friday against the Phoenix Roadrunners, with game-time set for 7:35 p.m. San Diego will then visit the Utah Grizzlies for the first time with a pair of games (Saturday and Monday).
All games can be heard on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. Most games can also be viewed on the Gulls' web site, courtesy of B2 Networks (Friday's CAN BE VIEWED, the games in Utah cannot).
