Gwinnett beats Charlotte, 4-3

Pascal Pelletier posted his team leading 14th goal of the season shorthanded late in the third period to help the Gladiators break a three game road losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Charlotte Checkers at the Charlotte Bobcats arena on Thursday night.

Matt York posted his first professional goal to 3:45 into the first period giving the Gladiators a 1-0 lead as he beat Charlotte netminder Chris Holt. Sliding in from his point position, York took a pass in the slot from a tied up Pascal Pelletier in the corner on the goal. Guillaume Desbien also had an assist on the tally.

Gwinnett couldn't hold the lead as Hugh Jessiman posted the first of his two opening period tallies 8:31 into the first period. Open in the right wing slot, Jessiman had time to pick where he wanted to shoot and beat Gladiators netminder Chad Collins to the short side. Ryan Cuthbert and Ryan Glenn picked up the assists on the tally.

Jessiman picked up his second goal on the power play sliding by a Gladiators defenseman and beating Collins with a snapshot to give the Checker a 2-1 lead. Cuthbert picked up his second assist of the game on the goal at 14:24 of the first period.

Charlotte extended their lead to 3-1 with another power play goal as Rory Rawlyk was able to sneak a puck through traffic in front of the net and Collins for the goal. Ryan Fultz and Bryan Rodney added the assists on the tally at 16:56 of the first period.

Pascal Pelletier posted his team leading 13th goal of the season 6:05 into the second period to cut the Checker's lead to one goal. Set up on the off goal post, Pelletier took a pass from Guillaume Desbien out of the far corner for the goal. Jeff Campbell also had an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.

Derek Nesbitt tied the game at three on the power play 7:42 in to the third period. On the off wing, Nesbitt ripped a snap shot past Holt off a feed from Campbell. Troy Milam also picked up an assist on the tally for the Gladiators.

Pelletier netted his second of the night shorthanded at the 16:05 mark of the third period. Lane Manson tapped the puck ahead to a wide open Pelletier in the neutral zone who walked in and backhanded the puck past Holt for the game winning goal. Gwinnett caught the Checkers on a line change to pick up the tally.

Chad Collins made 33 saves for the Gladiators in the win to pick up his first win with Gwinnett on the season to help the Gladiators snap a three game road losing streak. The Gladiators improved to 10-5-2 on the season.
