
Gulls Looking for Third Straight Win

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls look for their third straight win and to go four games above .500 for the first time this season when they take on the Las Vegas Wranglers tonight at the ipayOne Center. Vegas has the most points in the entire ECHL and second-best winning percentage.
SERIES HISTORY: The Gulls and Wranglers have met twice so far this season with Las Vegas holding a 2-0-0 series edge. The teams square off four more times during the regular season, two in each city.

San Diego owns the all-time series match-up, posting a 12-6-2 record against its Northern Conference rival. The Gulls are 7-2-0 all-time against the Wranglers at the ipayOne Center.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (JAN. 10 @ LAS VEGAS ): The Wranglers notched five goals in a 10-minute span during the first and second periods and cruised to a 6-2 victory over San Diego at the Orleans Arena. Dan Tudin's goal at the 13:13 mark of the opening frame set off a flurry of five Las Vegas scores, spanning into the fourth minute of the second period. The Gulls finally got on the board - twice - in the third period. At the 2:53 mark, defenseman Evan Shaw broke the ice with his first goal as a Gull and second of the year. Kelly Askew followed with his initial score as a Gull and first since 2002 with 11:40 left to make it 6-2.
GULLS UPDATE: San Diego (17-14-4) enters the day third in the Pacific Division with 38 points, two behind the second-place Long Beach Ice Dogs and 12 back of the front-running Fresno Falcons... The Gulls are seven points ahead of the fourth-place Bakersfield Condors, but Bakersfield has four games in hand... San Diego has played two fewer games than Long Beach... The Gulls have won two straight and are 16-9-4 in their last 29 games (since starting the season 1-5-0)... During the last 10 games, the Gulls have killed 61 of 70 penalties (87 percent)... They have scored seven short-handed goals during that span... San Diego is 10-5-3 at home... Including tonight, four of its next five games are at home...
PLAYER NOTES: Steve Hildenbrand has a five-game point streak and has 31 points (12g, 19a) in his last 24 games... Richard Keyes has 29 points (11g, 18a) in the last 25 games... Jesse Bennefield has 26 points (14g, 12a) in the last 17 games... Pierre-Luc Sleigher has points in eight of the last nine games and has 15 points in that span (4g, 11a)... Tyler Weiman has won seven of his last nine decisions and has stopped 293 of 314 shots in that span (.933 save percentage).
LAS VEGAS UPDATE: Las Vegas (29-6-4) starts the day first in the West Division with 62 points, three head of the second-place Alaska Aces. The Wranglers have the most points in the ECHL and also own the second-best winning percentage (.795)... Las Vegas is unbeaten in six straight (5-0-1) and has only lost twice in regulation during the last 28 games (23-2-3)... The Wranglers have racked up all their points while not having one player ranked in the top 10 in scoring... Tudin (ranked 16th) leads the club with 37 points (14g, 23a)... Veteran goaltender Marc Magliarditi is first in the ECHL with 18 wins and three shutouts, while ranking third with a 2.19 goals-against average...
TRANSACTIONS: Alex Kim, still recovering from a broken collar bone, was transferred to the 30-day injured list yesterday... Aaron McKenzie was placed on the seven-day IR... Matt Kunsman was released Sunday... David Svagrovsky (tear in finger), Guillaume Fournier (concussion), Andy Thompson (recovering from wrist surgery) and Alex Rogosheske (torn ACL) also remain on the injured list... Cody McLeod remains with Lowell of the American Hockey League...
