Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (26-10-2) used two power play goals and killed off all eight power play chances for the Pensacola Ice Pilots (15-21-3) to pick up a 4-1 victory over their division rival. The win was Florida's seventh straight against Pensacola this season.
The Everblades, who opened a seven-game home stand tonight, began the game strong coming with pressure from the drop of the puck. The hard work was rewarded just 1:48 into the game when Kevin Bergin collected the first of his two goals on the night while the Everblades were on the power play.
Chris Lee extended Florida's lead to 2-0 with his seventh goal of the season at 2:53 of the second period, slapping a shot past Pensacola net-minder Todd Ford from the left circle. Midway through the second period, the Everblades penalty killers came up strong killing a four minute power play for the Ice Pilots, two minutes of which was a 5-on-3. Shortly after killing the penalties, the Everblades collected their second power play goal of the game when Dan Sisca wristed a shot inside the left post at 13:43 of the middle period.
Pensacola's lone goal came late in the second period when Brian Collins forced a shot past Everblades goalie Kevin Nastiuk with 2:14 remaining in the second period.
The Everblades sealed the win late in the third period on Bergin's second of the night and 15th goal of the season at 17:14.
Nastiuk, who was making his first start on home ice, increased his record to 2-0-0 by stopping 32 of 33 Pensacola shots. Ford suffered the loss allowing four goals on 37 Florida shots, dropping his record to 9-12-0.
On the power play, the Everblades closed out the night 2-for-4, and the Ice Pilots finished the game 0-for-8. By blanking Pensacola on the power play, the Everblades have killed off 44 of 46 power play opportunities for the Ice Pilots this season.
The Everblades return to action on Saturday, January 21 when they host the Augusta Lynx at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena. Saturday night's game will be televised on UPN-8, as well as simulcast on SportsRadio 770 AM.
