Grumet-Morris Makes 45 Saves in 2-1 Rampage Loss to Checkers

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 4, 2012) - San Antonio Rampage goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris made a season-high 45 saves in San Antonio's 2-1 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena on Wednesday night.

The Checkers scored the game's first goal at 16:34 of the opening period when right wing Jerome Samson fired a shot on the San Antonio net, picked up his own rebound, and backhanded the puck past Grumet-Morris to give Charlotte a 1-0 edge. Forwards Brett Sutter and Riley Nash tallied the assists on Samson's 15th marker of the season.

Nash extended the Checkers lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal 2:25 into the third frame. He got his stick on a Michal Jordan shot from the blue line to deflect the puck by Grumet-Morris for his third goal of the year and second point of the night. Defenseman Derek Joslin notched the secondary helper on the play.

The Rampage scored with just over a minute remaining in the game to make the count 2-1. A centering feed from left wing Evan Barlow went off of forward David Marshall and eluded Checkers backstop John Muse before going over the goal line. Left wing Evgenii Dadonov also registered an assist, his fifth of the year, on the Marshall goal.

Muse turned aside 42 of the 43 Rampage shots he faced for his second win of the season while Grumet-Morris denied the Checkers on 45 of their 47 shooting attempts.

San Antonio (16-16-2-0) returns home for a 7 p.m. (CST) contest at the AT&T Center on Friday night against their in-state rivals, the Texas Stars.
