Miele Named AHL All-Star

Springfield, Massachusetts - The American Hockey League announced today that Portland Pirates rookie forward Andy Miele was named to the Eastern Conference All-Stars for the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic, to be played at historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey the weekend of January 29-30.

Miele, a 23 year-old from Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, has played 26 games this season for Portland, tallying nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points. The 5-foot-9, 175 pound forward has recorded multiple-point games on five occasions, including a five-point game October 19 against Manchester. Miele has registered two game-winning goals and two more on the power play. He also has a plus-4 rating for the season with 18 penalty minutes.

Miele has been called up to the NHL twice this season. He has played a total of seven games for the Phoenix Coyotes and has yet to score his first NHL point.

He was signed by Phoenix as an undrafted free agent on April 2 after he completed his college career with the University of Miami (Ohio) Red Hawks. Miele was named the winner of the 2011 Hobey Baker Award as the top player in NCAA Men's Division I hockey after scoring 24 goals and 47 assists for 71 points in 39 games last season. He finished his college career with 60 goals and 100 assists for 160 points in 140 games played in four seasons at Miami.

Miele will participate in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 29 at 3:00 p.m. The All-Star Classic takes place Monday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m.
