Binghamton Senators News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators kicked off 2012 with a 4-3 victory over the Adirondack Phantoms in midweek hockey action at the Glens Falls Civic Center. With the win, the B-Sens remain unbeaten against their Northeast Division rivals, improving to 5-0-0-0 in the season series.
The line of Rob Klinkhammer, Corey Locke and Andre Petersson came up big for the B-Sens. Klinkhammer scored a pair of goals, while Locke and Petersson each racked up three assists.
The B-Sens took a 1-0 lead at 10:52 of the first as Klinkhammer backhanded a shot past Jason Bacashihua for his first of the night.
With Locke off serving a tripping minor, the Phantoms tied the game 1:03 later. Tyler Brown hacked a loose puck into the Binghamton goal to even the score, 1-1 at 11:55 of the period. Denis Hamel and Jason Akeson drew the assists on the goal.
Corey Cowick broke the tie at 3:31 of the second period, as he redirected Mark Borowiecki's drive from the right point to give the B-Sens a 2-1 lead.
Binghamton stretched their lead to two goals as Klinkhammer put away his second of the night at 11:06 of the third period off a feed from Locke.
The Phantoms followed that effort up with a pair of goals to tie the game, scored 2:13 apart. Garrett Roe put a wrister in between the pads of Mike McKenna at 12:26 of the period. Eric Wellwood then tied the game at three as he tipped in Dan Jancevski's wrister from the point at 14:13.
Just as it appeared the teams would be headed for overtime, Tim Conboy's shot from the high slot found its way through traffic to give the B-Sens a 4-3 edge with just 1:08 remaining in regulation.
McKenna improved to 9-9-0 on the season, making 22 saves.
Binghamton was 0-for-1 on the power play. Adirondack went 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
The B-Sens see action again Friday as they host the Connecticut Whale in a 7:05 p.m. start. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or in person at the Binghamton Senators' executive office or the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office.
