Grizzlies Sweep Doubleheader against CornBelters

SAUGET, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies picked up a pair of 4-3 wins against the Normal CornBelters in a doubleheader Friday night at GCS Ballpark in front of a crowd of 3,572.

The victory in game one gave Gateway (43-28) manager Phil Warren his 400th career managerial win. Gateway has now won four straight and five of their last six games. The Grizzlies are just a half game back of River City in the West Division.

Michael Wing brought in Michael Johnson on a bases loaded one-out single in the 10th inning in game one to give Gateway the walk-off win.

Normal (34-36) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the doubleheader opener after a Sam Judah third inning solo home run.

Gateway scored three runs on two home runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Landon Hernandez smacked a solo home run and Ben Waldrip blasted a two-run home run.

A two-run sixth inning for Normal tied the game at 3-3. Michael Schwartz recorded a sacrifice fly and Aaron Dudley drove in a run on a single.

Chris DeBoo (5-1) notched the win for the Grizzlies in game one after pitching two scoreless innings of relief.

In game two, Gateway scored a pair of runs in both the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead.

TJ Bennett drove in a run on a double and Wing picked up an RBI single in the first inning to make it 2-0 Gateway.

In the second inning, Madison Beaird hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4-0.

Normal scored two runs in the fifth inning and another run in the sixth inning to come within a run, but Gateway closer Richard Barrett pitched a one-two-three final inning with two strikeouts for his 15th save of the season.

Andrew Aizenstadt (2-3) notched the win after pitching one and a third innings in relief.

The Grizzlies continue their homestand with game one of a three-game series against the Windy City ThunderBolts Saturday night. Right-hander Ja'Vaun West (6-1) will make the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05.
