HANOVER PARK, IL - A late-inning rally by the Schaumburg Boomers allowed them to steal a win away from the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, tonight by a score of 4-3.
The Aviators got on the board early in the first inning with RBI singles from Tanner Witt and Kenny Bryant to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
However, the Boomers responded with two solo home runs in the bottom half of the inning, one each from Joe De Pinto and Tony Delmonico to even the score up at two.
The game remained tied until the top of the fourth inning when the Aviators broke the stalemate as Brad Gerig recorded his first professional RBI with a fielder's choice that scored Bryant, giving the Aviators a 3-2 lead.
Kyle Hassna pitched one of his best games of the season as he allowed just two runs on five hits, but would earn the no-decision as the Boomers spoiled the Aviators party in the bottom of the eighth.
With one out, the bases loaded, and two strikes against him, Delmonico racked up two more RBIs with a single into center field that allowed Alexi Colon and De Pinto to score and give the Boomers a 4-3 lead heading into the ninth.
The Aviators had a chance, however, with the tying run in scoring position with two outs in the top of the ninth. Edgar Corcino singled with two outs and Witt followed with a walk that brought Dusty Robinson to the plate with a chance to tie, but he would pop out to the short stop to end the game.
The Aviators will have another chance against the Boomers tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium. Fans will be able to listen to the broadcast on the Meridix Network. The link to the broadcast can be found on the Aviators website at www.rockfordaviators.com.
