Boomers Rally Past Rockford

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to rally past the Rockford Aviators 4-3 on Saturday night.

Rockford plated a pair of runs in the top of the first against Schaumburg starter Cal Bowling. The Boomers evened the game with a pair of solo homers from Joe De Pinto and Tony Delmonico. Rockford opened a 3-2 lead with an unearned run in the fourth. Delmonico played hero in the bottom of the eighth, singling home two runs with the bases loaded to account for the final.

Bowling worked five innings in a no decision, allowing just a pair of earned runs. Anthony Smith earned the win with 1.1 innings of relief, improving to 5-2. Clark Labitan finished out the win to notch his second save. Delmonico drove home three runs and finished with a pair of hits. De Pinto and Gerard Hall also posted two hits. Alexi Colon recorded a leaping grab at the wall in the fifth.

Schaumburg (43-30), owners of the best home record in the league at 28-9 and leading the league in attendance, continue the homestand on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. affair. LHP Danny Jimenez (7-3, 4.04) receives the call for the Boomers against RHP Cole Green (2-5, 5.56) for Rockford.
