Washington, PA - After being delayed 90 minutes, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, broke out the bats for 16 hits en route to an 8-2 victory over the visiting Traverse City Beach Bums. Shawn Blackwell earned his ninth win of the season while Casey Delgado suffered the loss.

In total, Washington had five players' record multi-hit nights, and of the 16 hits, five were for extra bases.

Traverse City began the game with some offense of their own in the top of the second inning when catcher Jake Rhodes punched a single through the Wild Things defense to plate third baseman Kevin Taylor and right fielder Sean Gusrang for a 2-0 lead. The deficit could have been more had it not been for an impressive catch against the wall by left fielder CJ Beatty to end the early rally.

Washington tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth when first baseman Will Beckwith scored on a groundout by second baseman Ryan Kresky, followed by an RBI double from catcher Jim Vahalik. Beatty coupled his flashy defense with some offensive success in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to give the Wild Things a 3-2 lead.

The game was broken open in the bottom of the sixth when Washington started to rally with two outs. A single by Vahalik started the engine that would produce five runs on six hits with Washington batting around the order for an 8-2 lead. Run scoring hits were accredited to Beatty, center fielder Daniel Poma, right fielder Scott Kalamar and second baseman Garrett Rau.

In the field, Washington allowed just two hits after the Beach Bums scored in the second. The Wild Things used five pitchers en route to their 46th victory of the season, maintaining their lead in the East Division of the Frontier League.

Traverse City and Washington will square off again on Sunday, August 10 for a doubleheader beginning at 3:05 p.m. For tickets, call 724-250-9555 or order online at www.washingtonwildthings.com.
