FLORENCE, Ky. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, were shut out for only the second time this season in a 4-0 loss to the Florence Freedom on Saturday night at UC Health Stadium.

Pitchers ruled until the ice was finally broken with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Jacob Tanis homered to the left field bullpen to give the Freedom a 2-0 advantage. Florence added to the lead in the seventh inning when Doug Joyce led off with a double and was singled home by Zak Blair, ending the night for Normal starter Bobby Shore.

The Belters' best chance came in the eighth inning when they loaded the bases with nobody out and came up empty after a strikeout and a double play. The Freedom tallied an insurance run in the eighth inning on an inside-the-park home run by Buddy Sosnoskie after an unsuccessful diving attempt on his gapper to right center.

Casey Henn (6-5) earned the win with seven innings, giving up three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Shore (3-5) took the loss with a six-inning effort, giving up seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Daniel DeSimone worked a scoreless ninth inning for his second save.

The road trip concludes in suburban Cincinnati with a doubleheader on Sunday with the first game scheduled to begin at 12:05 p.m. Central. The Belters return home for a brief three-day, four-game home stand against the Gateway Grizzlies beginning Tuesday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader with a special appearance by the Banana Derby.
