Grizzlies Rally 3-2 In Victoria
March 17, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Victoria, British Columbia - West Valley native D.J. Jelitto scored the game-winning goal with 9:50 left to go in the third period as the Utah Grizzlies defeated Victoria 3-2 Saturday night. With Utah's win and the Phoenix RoadRunners' 5-3 loss to Las Vegas, Utah enters play Sunday four points out of a playoff spot with ten games remaining.
Victoria took a 1-0 lead 28 seconds into the game on a goal from Wes Goldie and appeared to take a 2-0 lead on the power-play at 1:56 of the first period, but referee Shane Warschaw waved off the goal calling a Victoria penalty. Utah took the momentum from there with goals from the recently activated Matt Craig and rookie Danny Stewart to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Salmon Kings added a power-play goal in the second to make the game 2-2 entering the third period.
Utah netminder Ben Gray stopped 45 of 47 in his Utah debut for the win. The 6-foot-5 goaltender was acquired from Cincinnati just prior to the ECHL's trade deadline on February 28.
Utah activated their fourth-leading scorer Matt Craig prior to the game after he had missed the previous six games injured. Rookie defenseman Brian Deeth, signed by Utah yesterday following his four-year college career at Northeastern, did not dress for the game.
The Grizzlies and Salmon Kings meet again Sunday from Victoria. Face-off is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
Utah returns home to the E-Center to open a six-game home stand Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week with Stockton. All remaining Utah home games start at 7:05 p.m.
