Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL announced today (Saturday) that they have signed collegiate defenseman Dan Knapp for the remainder of the 2006-2007 season.

Knapp completed a four-year career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where in 137 games he had 37 points (8 goals and 31 assists) and 135 penalty minutes. Knapp, a native of Hermantown, Minnesota, is expected to be in Pensacola in time for Saturday's game against the South Carolina Stingrays.

In the 2005-2006 season as a junior, Knapp was chosen as UNO's Most Improved Player and appeared in 40 of 41 games. As a sophomore, Knapp had five multi-point games and earned CCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors.

"Dan Knapp should give us some badly needed depth on the blue line," said Ice Pilots head coach Joe Clark. "He's coming from a solid program, and an established league in the CCHA. It's a good opportunity for us to take a look at a prospect for next season, and at the same time for Dan to get some pro experience."

The Pensacola Ice Pilots return to action tonight (Saturday when they entertain the South Carolina Stingrays also at 7:05 pm. The Ice Pilots will be in the St. Patty's Day spirit by wearing their special jerseys. Fans are encouraged to stay after the game for a jersey auction.
