
Cyclones Rally Falls Short, 3-2

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones rallied from a 3-0 deficit and nearly forced overtime on the Trenton Titans Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The end result was a 3-2 loss, but showed the character of the first place team, as the Cyclones surrendered the trio of scores in the first 11:43, but battled back to have a one goal game going for the final13:25.
Trenton came out of the gates flying, scoring the first three goals of the contest, building a 3-0 edge at the first intermission. Bryan Miller opened the scoring on the power play just 1:11 into the contest, his sixth of the campaign. At 9:09, Les Haggett buried his 18th score of the season to extend the lead to 2-0. At 11:48, Benoit Mondou rifled home his 18th score The three goals in the first period marked the second time in March, fifth time this season, and second time versus the Cyclones this season, that the Titans lit the lamp three times in the opening period.
Trenton out shot the Cyclones, 17-4, in the opening period.
The Cyclones scored the lone goal of the second period, as Jason Goulet netted his third goal of the season and his first since being acquired by Cincinnati on Valentine's Day. Goulet's goal at 13:09 was a power play score and Jason Deitsch and Mathieu Aubin had the assists.
The Cyclones closed the gap to 3-2, when Barett Ehgoetz netted his 15th goal of the season at 6:35 on the power play. Matt Macdonald added the lone assist. That was how the game ended.
The Cyclones have scored power play goals in each of the last six games.
The Cyclones are now 33-23-3-2, leaders of the North Division lead by three points over Dayton. Trenton is 30-26-1-4 on the season and is in fifth place in the North. The Cyclones battle Dayton Sunday night (March 18) at Hobart Arena in Troy at 6:30pm.
