Utah Grizzlies News Release

Cincinnati, OH - The Utah Grizzlies (16-28-4-3) did something on Friday night that they haven't done all season, win a game they trailed heading into the third period. It took 22 chances but the Grizzlies finally came through in the third period keeping their playoff hopes alive with a 3-2 victory over Cincinnati (18-22-7-1).

Cincinnati scored the first goal of the game when Utah's defensemen got caught up the ice creating a three-on-one for the Ducks in which Nick Smith fed Dan Bylsma for his first goal of the season beating Utah rookie Dan Ellis. Utah would come back with a beautiful goal by Trevor Daley, his second of the season, assisted by Steve Gainey and Jarrod Skalde. The Grizzlies would squander three power play opportunities and the Ducks would miss on a couple of power play chances. Utah outshot the Ducks 10-8 in the frame.

The teams played a scoreless period until there was less than a half minute remaining when Cincinnati took advantage of several chances on Ellis with Bylsma scoring his second of the night on a rebound giving the Ducks the 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Cincy out shot the Grizzlies 15-9 in the period as Ellis was near perfect until the last shot of the frame.

The third period is where the Utah offense got going aas it took long enough with the team tying the score with Justin Cox banging home a rebound off a great drive to the net by Zenon Konopka for his ninth goal of the year at the 15:24 mark of the third period. With the score tied, Utah would get an odd man rush with Rob Valicevic leading the way and dropping a pass off to Dan Jancevski for his fourth goal of the year and the game winner.

Utah will travel to Milwaukee for an afternoon game tomorrow at the Bradley Center. Face-off is scheduled for 12:30 PM (mst).
