Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA â Jean-Marc Pelletier stopped each of the 31 shots he faced as the Springfield Falcons overcame the Manchester Monarchs, 4-0, at the Springfield Civic Center on Friday evening. Falcons center Erik Westrum scored twice while forward Chris Ferraro tallied a goal and two assists in the win. Rookie left wing Frantisek Lukes also scored for Springfield.
The Falcons grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the opening frame. Lukes held the puck in the Falcons' zone after the team thwarted the Monarchs' breakout attempt. The rookie forward spun toward the Manchester net and scored from between the face-off circles after skating with Ferraro to outnumber a single Monarchs defender.
Westrum lifted a sharp-angled shot under the crossbar during a power-play with 6:59 remaining in the first period for his first of two goals in the game. Westrum received a pass at the bottom of the right wing face-off circle from Chris Ferraro before turning for the wrist shot.
Ferraro tallied the Falcons' second power-play goal of the night 8:56 into the middle frame. The 30-year-old blasted a slap shot past Manchester goaltender Mathieu Chouinard from near the right wing half-boards after carrying the puck across the blue line.
Westrum capped scoring in the contest with his team-leading 13th goal of the season with 21 seconds left to play by shooting into an empty net after receiving an unselfish centering feed from Kolanos.
Pelletier made 15 saves during the third period to preserve the shutout. The shutout was Pelletier's second of the season and 15th of his professional career.
The Falcons converted two of six power-play chances in the game while killing off all five of the Monarchs' opportunities with the man advantage.
Falcons defenseman Bryan Helmer made his debut for the club and registered an assist on Ferraro's power-play goal in the second period.
IceChips: The Falcons announced Friday that right wing Frank Banham has left the club to sign with a team in Russia.
The Falcons will wrap up a four-game homestand against I-91 rival, the Hartford Wolf Pack, on Saturday night. Game time is 7:35 p.m. To order tickets by phone, please contact the Civic Center box office at (413) 787-6600 or (800) 639-8602.
