Two River Rats Reassigned

Albany N.Y. – The Albany River Rats announced today that the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils have reassigned defenseman Tyler Hanchuck and left wing Ahren Nittel to the Adirondack IceHawks of the United Hockey League.

Hanchuck, who turns 22 on Saturday, recorded one assist and 20 penalty minutes in 16 games for the River Rats during the 2003-04 campaign. He signed a free agent contract with Albany on October 8, 2003 and was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens with their third choice (79th overall) in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Nittel, 20, went scoreless in 28 games for the River Rats during his first American Hockey League season. He was originally drafted by New Jersey with their fifth choice (85th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

The River Rats continue their current three-game road trip tomorrow night against the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum at 7:05pm. Albany then visits the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in a 7:05pm face-off at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday.
